Про стремление части эльфов остаться в Средиземье: "The “heresy” awakes in new form: the Valar clearly do exist; but they have abandoned Endor: rightly as the appointed realm of the Quendi. Now they are becoming jealous, and wish to control the Quendi as vassals, and so repossess themselves of Endor. Finwë, a gallant and adventurous young quende, direct descendant of Tata (therefore 25th gen.), is much taken by these ideas; less so his friend Elwë, descendant of Enel.) <...> Ingwë, Finwë, and Elwë arrive in Valinor. They are indeed dazzled and overawed. Finwë (with “heretical” leanings) is most converted, and ardent for acceptance. (He has a lover, Míriel, who is devoted to crafts, and he longs for her to have the marvellous chance of learning new skills. Ingwë is already married, and more cool, but desires to dwell in the presence of Varda. Elwë would prefer the “lesser light, and shadows” of Endor, but will follow Finwë his friend.)". Выходит, ещё до истории с Непокоем Нолдор, непосредственно перед переселением в Валинор, лидеры двух крупнейших народов эльдар (Финвэ, предводитель нолдор, и Эльвэ, будущий Тингол, предводитель тэлери / синдар) считали, что эльфы должны остаться в Средиземье. Финвэ поменял свое мнение уже после того, как побывал в Валиноре и увидел для эльфов возможность научиться у Валар многому полезному, а Эльвэ отправился на запад во многом под его влиянием (но в итоге так и не дошел). А ещё тут особенно интересно прямое подтверждение того, что молодой Финвэ до переселения в Валинор по складу личности не так уж сильно отличался от Феанора. Вишенка на торте - часть Валар, во главе с Ульмо (и, возможно, Йаванной) по этой версии заранее предупреждала, что идея забрать эльфов в Валинор закончится тем, что рано или поздно или Валар вернут их в Средиземье, или они сами восстанут и вернутся туда по собственной воле, даже безотносительно Мелькора: Most of the Valar think they should remove the Quendi to safety, at least temporarily. Ulmo in chief (also Yavanna?) is against this: It is not Eru’s intention that they should reside in such a place; and could not or would not be temporary. He prophesies that once brought thither the Quendi would either have to be sent back to their proper homes against their will; or would rebel and do so against the will of the Valar.
