The Wingding family ran their scam without any problems. Not a single laboratory worker suspected anything was wrong. When Sans brought the «experimental», Gaster met him with a tired smile. The monsters began a long and painstaking work.
The girl was laid on a table and her limbs were fixed with belts. Gaster took over much of the work as Sans was not overly experienced and showed no desire to participate. The skeleton had mixed feelings about all this, so he preferred to observe. (As if the scientist himself had previously dealt with people in this regard). The girl was unconscious, but alive. The Doctor tried to collect maximum information. Most of all he was surprised by the soul of the girl: she was not white, but green. When, during the experiment, Gaster took the human soul in his hands, breaking its connection with the body, the girl's breathing and pulse slowed down, becoming measured. The scientist quickly returned the soul to its place, noting also that humans, unlike monsters, has a different shape. If monsters soul resembles an inverted heart, then humans has the shape of an ordinary heart, point down.
For some time, Gaster studied the girl, writing everything that he managed to find out in his journal. After a couple of hours, there were no empty pages left in the notebook, and those that were written out kept comparisons with the princess and many theories.
After another hour, Sans told his parent that he would go to rest for a while. He's already tired. The Doctor, whose head was full of information of various kinds, quickly nodded to his son, continuing to write something now in a new magazine, since there was no free centimeter left in the old one.
***
It was already morning when the skeleton, thinking that he dozed off for a couple of hours, woke up. Some monsters from the team of scientists managed to come to work in the laboratory. Sans, as soon as his brain woke up a little, went around the second and third floors of the building and even visited the first, but could not find his parent anywhere. «He spent all night there, apparently...» – swept through the skull of the skeleton. His thoughts turned out to be true, the monster himself was convinced of this when he visited the basement. He didn't even have to come up with an excuse, no one paid attention to him, all the monsters were busy with their own thoughts and hopes, which faded away every minute.
Gaster stood with his back to the table when Sans, closing the door behind him, approached the scientist.
– «Doc, how are you doi-I-I-E?-..... W-what is that?...» – The monster cried out briefly and covered his mouth with his bone palm, quietly asking the question.
The picture unfolding in front of the skeleton was probably imprinted in his memory for life. The girl, or rather her corpse, with all the limbs also tied to the table, half empty, lay in a layer. In the chest area, from the dimple on the neck to the navel, there was an incision that gave a view of the bones and insides of the human body. But the point was not even in this, but in the fact that part of the girl's internal organs stood in jars, near the legs of the table, in a certain liquid, which made it possible to keep them in their original form.
– «Her soul during one of the experiments did not return to the body, but did not break up either. I was able to put it in the flask when it started cracking. There is no air and it remains stable. After that, the work of the human body stopped. I thought it appropriate to study at least the internal structure of the human body.» – Gaster answered his son in a calm but tired tone, continuing his attempt to get the liver out of the girl's body.
– «G-get it... If anything, it's already morning...» – still not departed from a slight shock, the monster squeezed out words.
The scientist just nodded, finally taking out the liver and placing it in one of the free cans. The skeleton, in turn, turned away, only glancing briefly at the Doctor, who had gloves on his hands in human blood. Some spots were very dark, while others were brighter because they appeared at the moment. Sans tried to put all his thoughts in order, his skull buzzed, and an unpleasant taste appeared in his mouth, giving in to a feeling of disgust in the backyard of consciousness. It was disgusting to look at what his parent was doing, but the monster really did not see another way out, or maybe he did not want to see, he did not want to admit that the Scientist could have acted differently. But in the end, all his experiences were not particularly important in anticipation of what will happen soon.
Gaster began to work closely with experiments with human insides and soul after a couple of days, since before that he had studied the girl's body very carefully. Sans agreed to join only at the moment when the Doctor needed help with various chemicals and sketches of all his observations in the magazine.
Two monsters had to work to exhaustion to get at least something from all their attempts and actions. There were many failures and success did not want to fall into the hands of the Doctor and his son. Other laboratory workers did not notice changes in the behavior and condition of the main Scientist and his assistant, they simply believed that the two were trying to come up with something, but they had no results yet, which, in fact, were right.
After several sleepless nights, Gaster and Sans managed to create a kind of serum, which was based on monster magic by only 40 percent, which was a big breakthrough. On the 2nd of June, late in the evening, when no one was left in the room, the Scientist and his assistant left the basement, heading to the princess's ward. Gaster, entering the room, looked at Chara's body floating in a flask with a transparent liquid, to which various kinds of tubes and devices for measuring indicators were connected, which had to be checked to make sure that the princess was still alive. Having handed the skeleton a syringe with serum, the Doctor stepped back a couple of steps, because if everything works properly, he must notice the changes and write them down. Sans did everything according to plan – he injected liquid from the syringe through one of the tubes and, like his parent, moved a little closer to the exit.
One minute, two, three, seven passed... Fifteen. No reaction, nothing. The scientist without strength sank with a slight sigh of fatigue and hopelessness to the floor. Sans immediately ran up to Gaster, but the Doctor shook his head slightly, as if telling his son that he did not need his help, got to his feet.
«There will be a funeral tomorrow.» – the Scientist said with a look of sadness and disappointment.
